چکیده

Abstract. We investigated the long-term changes of principal tidal component M2 along North Atlantic coasts, from 1846 to 2018. analysed 18 tide gauges with time series starting no later than 1940. The longest is Brest 165 years observations. carefully processed data, particularly remove 18.6-year nodal modulation. found that variations are consistent at all stations in North-East (Cuxhaven, Delfzijl, Hoek van Holland, Newlyn, Brest), whereas some discrepancies appear North-West Atlantic. started long before 20th century and not linear. secular trends amplitude vary one station another; most them positive, up 2.5 mm/yr Wilmington since 1910. Since 1990, switch positive negative values Concerning possible causes observed changes, similarity between Oscillation suggests a influence large-scale atmospheric circulation on tide. Our statistical analysis confirms large correlations discuss underlying mechanism. A different spatial distribution mean sea level (corresponding water depth) year another, depending low-frequency sea-level pressure patterns, could impact propagation basin. However, hypothesis present unproven.

Sea Level Changes Along Global Coasts from Satellite Altimetry, GPS and Tide Gauge

The average global sea level was rising through the 20th century as a result of global warming [8, 9, 26]. The Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) estimated that between 1901 and 2010, the mean sea level rate 1.7±0.2 mm/yr and increased to 3.2±0.4 mm/yr between 1993 and 2010, and projected that in 2100 the largest increase in global average sea level ...

Atmospheric forcing of the oceanic semidiurnal tide

[1] The principal solar semidiurnal tide (S2) in the ocean is forced by the pressure loading of the atmospheric thermal tide as well as by the gravitational tidal potential. This paper examines the effects of adding the atmospheric S2 forcing to a forward tide model. When the model is forced only by the gravitational potential, the S2 relative elevation error with respect to pelagic tide gauges...

Large-scale elongated gas blowouts along the U.S. Atlantic margin

[1] In May 2000 we surveyed a series of en echelon, asymmetric depressions along the outer shelf off Virginia and North Carolina using high-resolution chirp and side-scan sonar. The features, which are elongated parallel to the shelf edge and have steep landward walls, are 4 km long, 1 km wide, and up to 50 m deep. On the basis of internal stratal geometry interpreted from chirp profiles, the d...
